What Is TYPO3

What Is TYPO3?

TYPO3 is a content management written in PHP, created in 1997 by Danish Kasper Skarhoj.

TYPO3 is published under license GNU GNU General Public License on an Apache or IIS on Linux distributions, Microsoft Windows or Mac OS X.

TYPO3 History

The TYPO3 development began in 1997. In 1998, the tool is licensed trade in the company superfish (dot) com. October 98, one of the first version was presented in France at IFRA Lyon. During the summer of 1999, Kasper superfish (dot) com left with the rights of TYPO3 for the continuous development alone. A year later, in August 2000 (and a few days before his marriage) Kasper publishes the first version for free download.

Dassault Systemes has contributed to improvements in TYPO3. During 2003, Kasper worked in France for the development of a specific CMS from a basic TYPO3 for Dassault Systemes. This collaboration will result in the creation of the extension TemplaVoilà!, Originally scheduled as the main feature of version 4 (release in spring 2006).

In parallel with version 4, a new branch of TYPO3 is under development, it will be version 5 of TYPO3. This version 5 is based on the development framework flow3.

Each branch has its own development team, the development team of Division 4 of TYPO3, the V4 Core Team consists of thirty members which ensures good stability to the project.

Because of its age and quality TYPO3 is well established in the government, such as in Quebec, and in companies. TYPO3 has many references to key accounts.

In 2009, projects TYPO3 and flow3 have each reached the final of “SourceForge Community Choice Awards in the category” Best Project for the Enterprise” for TYPO3 and in the category” Best New Project “for flow3.

TYPO3 – Features

TYPO3 is a complete CMS, and has the most sought after features. An overview of the possibility of TYPO3 is available on CMS Matrix

The main points of TYPO3 are:

* An architecture based on plug-in extensions that allow
o a tight grip on developments
o A possible adaptation of TYPO3 to customer needs without touching the heart of TYPO3
* In many extensions available, developed by the community or business
* A very fine management of the rights of contributors (based on Unix) to create profiles of different contributors as required
* A multi-site management easy
* An active community

TemplaVoila

TemplaVoila can go very far. All pages become editable by CMS. Technically, TemplaVoila implements two new functions:

1 – identification of content areas with the mouse and the number of zones becomes unlimited. In all CMS tools, you must enter the HTML code to indicate where dynamic content will be inserted. With version 4 of TYPO3 is completed. The template page is displayed and the mouse tells the delimitation of the content area.

2 – flexible content (or flexible contents) are equally innovative. The formatting of an element can not always be summarized in an article in a paragraph or something composed of a title, a body and possibly image. A flexible content to define a type of content and formatting associated with it.
