What Is Hosting?
In web services, the term hosting is meant to allocate a service on a web server pages on a website, making it accessible from the Internet. This “web server, called” host “, is connected to the Internet in ways appropriate to ensure access to site pages via browser, with identification of content by domain and IP address.
The provision of Internet connectivity, hosting, housing, and related web services, is today a very specific economic sector in which they operate many national realities, but also transnational corporations.
Types of Web Hosting
Free Hosting
Free hosting is usually offered by ISPs, such as primary service in anticipation of a change to the fee.
Free Hosting Includes:
- A multiple mailboxes;
- A certain amount of web space, often with the requirement of banner advertising.
The disadvantages of hosting for free, than pay, include:
- Address of the site that hosted coincides largely with the name of the Internet provider that hosts it;
- Performance: for example, you can publish only static sites written in HTML);
- Non-warranty service (with the risk then that the sites “guests” can not be active for a certain period of time);
- A bandwidth contention among many users.
Hosting fee
There is a great product range, depending on the use of the website you want to create. A typical service for a static site, it may inter alia include:
- Register or transfer a domain name;
- One to countless e-mail addresses associated with different mailboxes (POP3) or a single (aka e-mail);
- Anti spam and anti virus filters;
- A certain amount of web space;
- The right tools for the management of pages, such as file manager, prototypes, ftp, access counters, etc..;
- A monthly amount of bandwidth for the traffic generated by the site properly.
A typical service for a dynamic site may include in addition to those already mentioned:
- Support to one or more scripting languages such as PHP, Python, or ASP;
- To support a * online database such as MySQL or Postgres;
- Services * statistics and traffic analysis, such as Webalizer free software;
The hosting service also differs depending on the type of space that is made available:
- A dedicated server (or a web server that hosts a single web site);
- A shared server (hosting several sites on the same server).
The web spaces on the server’s hard disks are sold on shared server and they can be divided for accommodating a single domain or multiple domains. As for the monthly bandwidth available to some offerings include web space unlimited bandwidth. The hosting service also differs depending on the platform, i.e., the operating system installed on the server: Windows or Linux.
