What are Doorway pages?
Doorway pages are pages setup specifically for the search engines. Once visitors reach the page, they are then redirected to another website. A doorway page is usually a replication of the keywords and description of websites. It relies on repetition of related words and phrases to increase search engine ranking. They are also known as bridge pages, portal pages, zebra pages, jump pages, gateway pages and entry pages.
The concept of doorway pages is pretty simple, a webmaster targets specific keywords to be associated with his site, then builds a number of pages actively targeting those keywords. These doorway pages are not meant for human surfers, but for the search engine spiders or robots who index websites.
While doorway pages can only be used to attract traffic from the search engines, a well-optimized page that has good content can get visitors from the search engines and make people spread the word about your site.
The general advice is to avoid doorway pages and focus on optimizing your actual content pages. While that may be somewhat more difficult as with that you would need to please both the search engine algorithms and the human visitors with the same page.
