Continued from Web Traffic - Part 1

The chief aim of every webmaster is to generate web traffic and link popularity for the website. To get quality web traffic, you must also use “off page” optimization techniques. Link building campaigns and Link Popularity are part of the “off page” optimization methods that can generate continuous web traffic to your website.

For massive generation of web traffic, your web page must rank very high in the search engine result pages (SERPs). Helped with excellent search engine optimization techniques, equally good content and quality keywords, the web page can quickly establish itself in the SERPs, possibly on the first page of the SERPs. Good SEO techniques, quality keywords or key phrases, and excellent content are absolute requirements to produce continuous web traffic and popularity, and there are no shortcuts to achieve that.

If your web page fails to make to the first, second, or the third SERPs, then your chances of getting any web traffic to your website diminishes. Most of the searches hardly look into the search pages beyond the first 3 pages, so getting in to these first 3 pages of the search engines should be your goal.

Along with content, SEO, and keywords optimization methods, you must also work hard towards increasing web traffic by building link popularity, getting quality and relevant back-links to your site (not just to the home page, but to the deeper pages also), writing great comments on blogs and forums, submitting your site to the web directories, and using advertising methods like the Google Adwords to name few techniques which are also SEO methods.

Once you get the initial web traffic, you must do everything to make them come back to your website again and again. If your website succeeds in getting this repeat traffic, then the success of your website will be assured. The repeat traffic is known to generate most of the sales, hence get that web traffic coming back to visit your site many times.

There are plenty of methods that can help you get the repeat traffic and they shall be explained in this series of articles on Web Traffic. There are many techniques, most of them free, that can help you get quality web traffic, and how to convert this web traffic into paying customers.

What is Link Popularity?

The link popularity of any website depends upon how many quality links it gets from other websites with similar theme. If these links from the other sites have embedded keywords in their anchor tests, that are also your website’s best keywords then those links are quality and relevant links, and they help your web pages get higher ranking in the search engine result pages (SERPs).

Building link popularity is one of the most important aspects of effective search engine optimization (SEO) campaign. Link building is an “off-page” SEO technique.

The Link Popularity of any website depends chiefly on the following factors:

  • The number of websites that are linking to your website
  • The Page Rank and link popularity of the web pages themselves which send you the links
  • The page that is linking to you should not have too many outgoing links
  • Whether the link to your website comes from an .edu or .gov website!
  • The theme of the website that is linking to your website should also be similar to your website’s theme (same niche group)
  • The link should be a one-way link pointing to your website from other sites, i.e., your website should not point a link back to that website which is sending a link your website (reciprocal link)
  • The website that is sending your website a link should be higher ranking and more popular
  • The website that is linking back is not blacklisted by the search engines
  • The IP address of the website that links to your website
  • The anchor text should contain one of your website’s top keywords
  • The link that originates from any website should not be inside a JavaScript, or inside a frame, or on a page which the search engines cannot crawl.

There are many other important factors that increase or decrease the link popularity of your website. Quality web traffic and link popularity are interdependent, and together they generate income and success for a website.
