Email forwarding is useful if you have several people who need to know what's going on e.g. admin emails. I do this with my business partner so we both know if the server goes down, any bills come in etc. but we know for financial things who is dealing with them.

If you want to send an email to many people, mailing lists are often better. Some of these can use an email as input while others use a website interface. If using an email as input, the main advantage of a mailing list over email-forwarding is you can restrict who can post to the list and you can also set moderators to check only correct information is sent out to those people.

If your purpose to send a series of messages I think it is better to use a mailing list or newsletter instead of autoresponder.
