The Bobs – Best Of The Blog

BOBs (Best Of The Blog) is the international competition sponsored annually by the company weblogs German state of international communication Deutsche Welle since 2004. The event begins on August 31, daily (re) BlogDay known internationally, and ends with a ceremony open to the public at the Museum of Communication in Berlin in mid-November, in which the winners are announced.

The promotion of freedom of speech and press in the world is the main objective pursued by the Deutsche Welle to promote this event. Since 2005, one of the central categories of BOBs Award is the Reporters Without Borders, issued by DW in partnership with the nongovernmental organization Reporters Without Borders (RSF) and the best weblog engaged in the fight for freedom of expression.

Weblogs, podcasts and video blogs from around the world may be suggested to compete in one of 16 categories of BOBs, provided they are written or produced in the event’s official languages: Arabic, Chinese, German, English, Indonesian, French, Dutch, Persian , Portuguese, Russian and Spanish.

BOBs – Categories

In all, weblogs are awarded in 16 categories, five of which are mixed and eleven are reserved for each language-specific event. In 2008, these categories are:

  • Best Weblog
  • Best Podcast
  • Best Videoblog
  • Reporters Without Borders Award
  • Award Blogwurst
  • Best Weblog by language (in each of the eleven languages of the event)

BOBs – Structure

The BOBs comprises the Jury Prize and the Prize of the Users. That is: in each category, there are those awarded by the jury and awarded by the readers. The User Award is set through an international online poll, while the Jury Award is determined by an international body of judges composed of bloggers, media researchers and independent journalists. After publishing a list of ten nominees in each category from the total number of blogs suggested by the public, the board meets in Berlin to determine the winners.

Blogopedia

The Blogopedia is an international directory of weblogs in ten languages, monitored by the editors of The BOBs and accessible throughout the year through the event website. In this kind of database blogs, you can search for sites based on criteria such as title, author, country, language or type. There are meeting weblogs, podcasts and video blogs, all of which can be evaluated and commented by users.

Flog

A flog (also fotolog, fotoblog, or photoblog) is a register published on the World Wide Web with photos placed in chronological order, or just any order entered by the author, much like a blog, although you can add captions depicting great moments of leisure. It’s like a blog but the difference is dominated pictures instead of text.

The word is an abbreviation of Fotolog, which in turn arises from the juxtaposition of “picture” and “blog”. The flog has some tools for classifying technical information about them, all being made available on the Internet for servers unique or ordinary users.

Systems for creating and editing flogs are very attractive for facilities that they have, because you do not need knowledge of HTML, which attracts people to create them, rather than their personal sites.

In a flog, the main goal is to share images interactively, since people who visit the site can often make comments, suggestions or criticism. For some, flogs consist only of a way to show photos to friends and family, while others treat him with a more professional productions with more elaborate techniques. The tone varies according to the author, just like a blog.

Space for disclosure of personal photos, art, or composites of models, flogs have created multitudes of fans and users. The so-called floggers, usually teenagers, arrange meetings and create instant celebrities, recognized on the streets and giving even autographs. Large companies even hire some of these users as brand ambassadors with the young audience.

Videoblog

Videoblog (also called Videoblog, Vlog or YouTube) is a variant of weblogs whose primary content consists of videos.

With structure generally similar to that of weblogs and fotolog, updated frequently and has established itself as a personal site, maintained by one or more persons. The videos are displayed directly on a page without the need to download the file.

There are hosting services (accommodation) of free vlogs, which allow people with no knowledge of editing pages can publish your vlogs on the internet. Videos can be made using digital cameras or cell phones with recording feature movies, webcams, camcorders — analog or digital camcorders.

Videoblog – History

Videologger is the term used to identify personal video producers to the Internet, similar to the term videographer, with the difference that their production is the main objective to view the web. The first record of vlog internet dates from the beginning of 2000, created by Adam Kontra.

In February 2005, launched the U.S. site YouTube, which became a huge international success and had great impact on the popularity of vlogs.

Portals video sharing

There are hundreds of sites in the world that allow users to upload and easy sharing of video. People use these portals to publish the video or just watch. Most are free, and allows its contents to reach places that were previously inaccessible. Among the principal can mention MySpace, Yahoo Video and YouTube.

In 2006, with the increase in the habit of watching videos on the web, popularized mainly thanks to extensive media attention on YouTube and improving the technological conditions (such as the expansion of broadband in Brazil) there were the first successful vlogger of the Brazilian Internet. During this period, however, vlogs in Brazil still had trouble reaching a wider audience. In 2010 the vlogs have become a fad like the blog-and picture, experiencing a new and important process of popularization.

BarCamp

BarCamp is an international network formed around a conference model, commonly referred to “Unconference”. It mainly involves bloggers and software development companies and technologies.

The idea of BarCamp came from people with a common interest: cooperation. It is what directs the activities of the events, where each participant has literally become part of its function results. This model has been used around the world to bring people together in Amsterdam, New York, Vancouver, Brussels, Paris, San Francisco, Coimbra, Lisbon, Sao Paulo, Florianopolis, among many others.

BarCamp – Methodology

Each participant is encouraged to make a presentation, demonstrate the project you’re working, or take part actively in the discussions that occur at the corners of the event. There is no list of speakers or programming, but there are ideas and willingness to collaborate. It is to be involved directly in a horizontal structure and emergent conversation.
