Cloud Hosting : IaaS, PaaS and SaaS
With the potential improvement of cloud computing, the most buzzing terms SaaS, IaaS and PaaS are getting more and more common in the IT Industry, but do you know what these terms mean?
These are terms usually used in the Cloud Hosting and Computing industry:
- IaaS – Infrastructure as a Service (Infrastructure as a Service)
- PaaS – Platform as a Service (Platform as a Service)
- SaaS – Software as a Service (SaaS)
Definitions and Examples of the above terms:
IaaS – Infrastructure as a Service includes provisioning of virtual machines in which the developer has control of its management, allowing the storage and execution of a wide variety of applications.
For Example: Amazon EC2.
PaaS – Platform as a Service is an environment for custom application development. Usually they are environments that provide a set of primitives for which an application has a greater scalability.
For Example: Google AppsEngine.
SaaS – Software as a Service is a software developed specifically and available via the Internet.
For Example: Google Docs and Gmail.
